Sophie Manzie, a Bachelor of Social Science Honours graduate from the South African College of Applied Psychology, recently completed her practicum with Hospivision as part of her psychology volunteer program. Under the supervision of Chane Janse Van Vuuren, Sophie undertook a significant community project to improve the counselling environment at Steve Biko Academic Hospital (SBAH).

Sophie identified the need to enhance the comfort and visual appeal of the counselling room, which she discovered could positively impact counselling success. With the help of donations from local companies, Sophie successfully redesigned the room, focusing on elements like furniture, aesthetics, and nature to create a more welcoming space for both clients and staff.
Her efforts not only made the counselling room more comfortable and inviting but also inspired other student volunteers to consider similar initiatives. Sophie's work serves as a reminder of the impact small changes can have on patient care and support within healthcare settings.
